Welcome to a part of Chicago where knowledge of alcohol is a part of life. The quaint strip of Andersonville is home to a bevy of liquor stores, wine shops and notable bars catering to people who want to know exactly what it is they're getting tipsy on.
In Fine Spirits, one of those wine shops responsible for educating the masses on craft liqueurs and beers, got hip to the game and decided 2008 was an excellent year to open a wine bar in Andersonville. IFS store owners Shane and Jill Kissack partnered with Continuum Studio owners Johnnie Grozenski and Paul Hasenwinkel to create the wallet-friendly love-child known as the In Fine Spirits Lounge.
Andersonville residents can enjoy $7 to $12 classic cocktails spiced with exotic liqueurs. The gin-based Attention will introduce the masses to the aromatic Creme de Violette while they revel in friendly conversation, buoyed by the lime-green and wood decor of the main bar. A busy weekend can find patrons unwinding in the second-floor party room and bar, contemplating whether to guzzle a glass of the Italian Prosecco, the Spanish Sumarroca, or American Gruet from the sparkling wine flight ($8).
Summer will offer a 50-seat beer garden where guests can partake in Southern Tier's Imperial Pale Ale ($12.50 for 22 ounces) or Goose Island's Demolition ($6.50). For now, ask one of the knowledgeable bartenders or servers what you should order based on your taste. If you like what you’ve had, it's easy to saunter next door to the shop for a bottle to take home.
