If you think the magazine rack at Reckless Records is the end-all be-all of Chicago music literature, think again. Shake, Rattle & Read's 60,000 used books focus heavily on the entertainment industry; expect loads of books, vintage magazines, records and CDs. It's a browsing powerhouse, so long as you don't become overwhelmed by the decorated-to-the-nines walls: a giant "Van Halen is watching you sign" is just one of the many posters, comic books and '60s magazines bedecking the place.

If you're not a sworn Creem fan, it's still more than worth the trip. Beyond music paraphernalia, you'll find a variety of books that encompass everything from cooking to "how-to" titles. The always-changing window displays show off the shop's diversity: One showcased a hardcore copy of "Karma Sutra for 21st Century Lovers," which will run you just $15.
