| 1865 - 1935 Archaeologist James Henry Breasted was the first director of the University of Chicago's Oriental Institute. Educated at Chicago Theological Seminary, Yale University, North Central College, and the University of Berlin, Breasted was a pioneering researcher and explorer during a time when archaeology captured the public imagination.
