| Northwestern professor is the author of Actresses As Working Women: Their Social Identity in Victorian Culture and George Bernard Shaw and the Socialist Theatre. She is co-editor of Playwriting and Nineteenth-Century British Women, the Gender and Theatre Series for Routledge, and is general editor of the Theatre and Performance Theory series for Cambridge Univesity Press. A joint appointment in the Departments of English, Theatre, and Performance Studies, she is the director of the Interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Theatre and Drama. She serves on the editorial boards of New Theatre Quarterly, Essays in Theatre, Theatre History Studies, Theatre Survey, and Nineteenth Century Studies, and is a recent recipient of the National Endowment for the Humanities Research Fellowship, American Philosophical Society Research Grant, and Kathleen Barker Research Award from the Society for Theatre Research.
