The Petrillo Music Shell is the home of the Grant Park Symphony and Chicago's free Summer Music Festivals, which include the Blues Festival, Gospel Festival, Country Music Festival, Taste of Chicago, Viva Chicago & the Chicago Jazz Festival -- attended by millions of Chicagoans and visiting music fans.
The Symphony plays evenings during the summer months. Can't beat the price (free), and the GPSO guest roster is always worth noting. Folding chairs are near the pavilion, and you can picnic on the lawn beyond.
The shell is named after James Petrillo who, as president of the Chicago Federation of Musicians and commissioner of the Chicago Park District, started providing free concerts in Grant Park.
