For a shot of jazz, funk or soul, seek out Dusty Groove pronto. This premier music shop sells the best sounds around, both classics and recent tracks, on CDs, LPs, and 45s. There’s one downside: if you’re browsing, you won’t be able to listen to music before buying. However, you can search the Web site (there’s a computer in the store for easy on-site searches) for reviews of just about everything it offers. Even if you don’t make a purchase, it’s worth visiting just for the sonic experience: as a friend says, “They’re always playing something really great that I’ve never heard before.” Dusty Groove also has graphic novels, comic book compilations, and a terrifically random selection of DVDs (
The Avengers, Cocteau’s
Orphic Trilogy, and the blaxploitation masterpiece
Dolemite sit on adjacent shelves).
