Blue Meanies

Sort of a warped combination of ska and thrash. Horns in abundance, stuffed to the brim with light-speed swing-era jazz, waltz, and surf guitar. Very high energy and high noise level catering to their predominantly teenage male fans. In addition to Kiss Your Ass Goodbye (1995, Fuse Records), the 1995 7-inch "Urine Trouble" (No Lie Music), Pave The World (1993), Peace Love Groove (1992), a 1991 7-inch "Grandma Shampoo/Dickory Dock", and their 1990 cassette Nude Ain't Crude Demo, they've got a new record, Full Throttle (3 years in the making) on Thick Records. They've also appeared on a number of compilations including Misfits of Ska, American Skathic (both I & II), A Very Punk Christmas, and Declaration of Independents.

Says the Chicago Tribune, "Brash, energetic and noisy, Chicago's BLUE MEANIES sounds like they are playing everything at 78 rpms. The band's most obvious influences are punk and ska, but you'll also hear tinges of avant garde jazz and ethnic music in its brassy sound. We wonder what kind of vitamins these guys take."

Members include keyboardist Michael Linde, percussionist Robert Trondson, trumpeter/trombonist Jimmy Flame, vocalist Billy Spunke, organist Chaz, guitarist Mike Pearson, bassist Dave Lund, and saxophonist John Paul Camp.
