| Eccentric Chicago alto saxophonist (born April 16, 1910, died January 30m 1959) performed most of his life in Chicago (with Wingy Manone, Paul Mares, and Danny Alvin), and appeared on only a few recordings. "A slow reader, blind in one eye with about one tenth vision in the other" (according to Eddie Condon), he was nevertheless an intellectual, and a reader of poetry. Entered a Servite monastery about five years before his death
