A local combo, Chika is getting a bit of airplay on adult-alternative type stations in the mid-west and, to a lesser extent, on the west coast. They play a melodic type of alterna-ish lite-type rock. The crossover pop potential of the music is vast. Unsurprisingly, their music combines a diverse group of influences; lead singer Chika Sekiguchi is the daughter of a Japanese country western singer, drummer Matt Ferraro is the nephew of Benny Goodman's clarinet player and has played with Barbara Streisand and Chuck Mangione himself, bass player Rafe Bradford has played with Luther Vandross, Gladys Knight, and Mavis Staples, guitarist Curt Morrison played with many of the band members in various line-ups in Champaign Urbana. They have a new release Little Ship Head, out on Blue Marble Records.
