| This jazzy south-side hip-hop band has been around town for a couple of years, and has started to get some national attention with an acid jazz/hip-hop hybrid on its new eponymous disk. The cast, featuring the Lyrical "NDGO" Julio Davis who, according the rapper himself, "has the dope rap that makes your head spin;" "make you feel like you're on vacation" drumming by "Aim One" Tony Aimone; "thumpin' all over the place (and in your face)" bass by Dave Smith; and a passively nameless trumpeter. Aimone and Smith are former members of the local ska/punk act the Blue Meanies / current members of The Baltimores. According to the aforementioned nameless trumpeter, the band was courting offers from a few Europe-based labels simply because "we want to go to Europe." Chicago Reader critic Monica Kendrick says "Between the slinky grooves are biting rhymes that range from plugs for Fela to rants on the unsightly proliferation of neon fanny packs in Lincoln Park to lucid diatribes on racial politics." Recent gigs include the Empty Bottle, Double Door, Metro and the Elbo Room. Perhaps most notable, they're interesting to see live. They've also contributed a track to the recent Kate Bush tribute album.
