| Chicago jazz pianist was a leader of the Chicago 1950s bop scene, and then in the 1960s co-founded the AACM, a free-jazz musicians collective. Versatile is probably the perfect word for the man who was practically a member of Joe Segal's house band, since he was always requested by the out-of-town headliners -- a near perfect blend of freedom and tradition. Though Christian didn't record under his own name until this decade (including Front Line and Experience), you can hear his music on lots of discs, including Eddie Harris' million-selling 1967 Listen Here.
