Johnny Frigo

Jazz violinist once worked as a big-band bassist (with Jimmy Dorsey, Chico Marx, and the Soft Winds trio), and then returned to playing his first love, the violin, at which he's amazingly adept for an older fellow -- with a dazzling, flirtatious technique. He's recorded for Chesky and Concord, and has appeared on TV's "Tonight Show." He is also remembered as the composer of many tunes, ranging from the haunting "Detour Ahead" to the funny "I Told You I Love Ya (Now Get Out)."

He plays a birthday show every January at the Green Mill, and frequently plays in the city's other jazz clubs, including for the last 12 yeers a weekly gig (Monday night) with Joe Vito at Toulouse Cognac Bar.
