Kevin Tihista

Intelligent ultra-dream pop from a reclusive genius who played in Triple Fast Action and (briefly) Veruca Salt.

Tinista's girlfriend persuaded him to share some of the hundreds of dreamy pop songs he had been recording with someone other than her. From here, they were passed hand to hand, until he ended up with an Atlantic Records deal which resulted in his spectacular Atlantic Release (with his band the Red Terror) Don't Breathe A Word.

Tihista grew up in northern California, and moved to Chicagoland -- Naperville -- on his 21st birthday to join a friend's band. He eventually became caught up in Chicago's mid-'90s rock'n'roll feeding frenzy, having joined Triple Fast Action, though his own musical interests were certainly in a lighter vein -- along the lines of Big Star, the more restrained side of the Beatles catalogue, or another recent Chicago product, The Aluminum Group. Hey, he even recorded Veruca Salt's Resolver.

Chicago Reader critic Peter Margasak says "Tihista's melodies are subtle and he sings in a near whisper, shaping his hooks with deliberate grace."
