| Markiss, guitarist, singer and songwriter earned his world class reputation as a native of Chicago as a touring band member with blues legends Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf. Over the course of his career, Markiss has accumulated a list of credits that truly earned him the respect and acceptance of a world class blues guitarist. Markiss has the distinction of being one of the only guitarist still alive today have been an actual member of both Muddy Waters' and Howlin' Wolf's blues bands. He joined Wolf's band in 1978 and toured the U.S. with sideman Eddie Shaw, Detroit Junior and Hubert Sumlin. In 1980 Markiss reached a pinnacle for any blues guitarist when he was asked to join the Muddy Water's blues band. Muddy's favorite blues guitarist at the time was Johnny Winter and Muddy told Markiss " Your sound is the closest thing to Johnny I have heard yet." Replacing John Primer, Markiss joined forces with Mojo Buford, Lovee Lee and Ray"KIller" Allison for a world tour. Unfortunately Muddy passed during that time, but the short time spent with Muddy solidified Markiss' reputation as one of Chicago's top premier blues guitarist.
Markiss toured Europe and the U.S. with Memphis soul legend Al Green as a guitarist and musical director, as well as Ann Peebels, Otis Clay, and Syl Johnson. With a solid reputation as a touring guitarist his credits also include R&B legends the Spinners and reggae superstars Judy Mowatt, John Holt, The Wailers, UB40. Over the last 25 years Markiss has shared the stage in live performances with everyone from Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton to Robert Cray and The Neville Brothers. Now at 50, Markiss steps out front to carry on the spirit of the music he loves so much as a solo artist. Presently recording a Blues Debut CD, Markiss continues to carrying on the spirit and traditions of the legends that taught and molded him.
