| Orquesta Ranura is a dynamic nine-piece ensemble fusing African, Cuban, Puerto-Rican, and Brazillian folkloric styles with Funk and Jazz. Their polished approach and versatility allow them to incorporate elements of mambo, cha cha, merengue, cumbia, timba, rumba, guaguanco, songo, columbia, mozambique, bomba, and bembe. OR's live shows provide a danceable experience every time, with enticing polyrhythmic grooves and fat horn hits. Instruments include: vocals (new vocalist Jordan Lopez, formerly of Funktelligence), trombone, saxophone, trumpet, piano, bass, congas, timbales/auxiliary percussion, and drum set.
OR's summer 2002 tour covered Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Illinois. Their recent work with master percussionist and producer Juma Santos has ignited live performances and original compositions. They have recently been awarded by the Kalamazoo Arts Council with the prestigious Emerging Artist Grant to compose and record their first all original release.
