Passion Trip

Jason Gelb - Vocals, Guitar Originally from Berwyn, Jason started playing guitar at the age of 7 and by the age of 12, he was playing with true determination and passion for the instrument. His dad is in a longstanding country band, The Country Affair, and Jason has grown up around music his entire life. Once in high school, he met Chris Morrow and Scott Smith and formed The Electric Pickle. That band performed at block parties and was on several episodes of the Chris Kuhl show on RBTV. Around the same time, Jason made the Jazz Band and performed all over the Chicagoland area as well as a small tour in Florida. Once in college, Jason performed occasionally with The Country Affair in addition to solo performances until he met Dan with whom he formed the acoustic duo, Jared. Jared did a couple benefit shows at NIU. After four years Jason graduated in the top 10% of his class at NIU with a Business degree and then entered the working world. He then joined Salvation Amy regrouping again with Chris Morrow. Soon after, Chris Johnson joined and the roots of the band were forming. After leaving Salvation Amy, Jason and Chris Morrow recorded 40 songs, 18 of which make up the Passion Trip CD "Don't Go". Then after 6 months of recording Jason and Chris got the bright idea to play these songs live, so they convinced Chris Johnson to join the band. Jason’s influences include Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Dickey Betts, Joe Pass and Kenny Burrell

Chris Morrow – Percussion Growing up in Riverside Illinois, Chris began to play drums as a way to get out of piano lessons and never looked back! While attending Riverside-Brookfield High School, Chris performed with the marching, concert, jazz and theatre bands. During his junior and senior years, performances with the Greater Chicago Area Jazz Band under Orbert Davis and The West Suburban Youth Orchestra ensued. During the high school years Chris studied under Don Skoog. Under Don, Chris performed with the Sherwood Percussion Ensembles and the Sherwood Salsa Big Band. At R-B, Chris also met Jason Gelb and Scott Smith and the three would soon start the garage band the Electric Pickle. After college, Jason and Chris would start the original rock band Passion Trip. After high school, Chris would attend the Berklee College of Music in Boston. While at Berklee, Chris performed with the Salsa group Son Boricuba as well as many recitals and sessions. Chris graduated with a degree in performance in the spring of 1999 and returned to the Chicagoland area that summer. Back home, Chris has performed and recorded with a diverse range of artists in many styles. A brief list includes Jim Ullrich, Passion Trip, Salvation Amy and A Country Affair. Enter Squai. After seeing Squai live in early 2002, Chris decided they were the coolest thing since Tickle-Me Elmo dolls and decided to jump in. Chris’s current goals include Total World Domination and expressing his inner child through finger painting. Squai will make these goals a reality.

Chris Johnson – Bass, Vocals, Keyboards Originally from St. Louis Missouri, Chris started off in music at the early age of 10 with piano lessons. Throughout grade school, Chris played the recorder, trumpet, the accordion and performed in vocal recitals. Learning to play guitar by ear, Chris began playing along with his favorite rock groups like Ted Nugent, AC/DC and KISS. It wasn’t until college that Chris bought his first bass guitar, an Ibanez Roadstar. His early influences were Larry Graham, Geddy Lee, Flea and Marcus Miller. Chris joined a number of groups during his college years, most notably the power trio XYZ. Playing bass and keyboards, the band became prominent in St. Louis and at area colleges. Following that, Chris wrote and recorded a number of songs for other artists gaining experience as a talented songwriter. A few years would pass and eventually Chris moved to Chicago in 1997. He joined Salvation Amy in October 1999 and along with Jason Gelb and Chris Morrow, they worked hard at their craft playing the suburban bar scene. After leaving Salvation Amy, Chris decided to build a project studio to write and record songs with the hope of being in a band again. One day an email came from Jason asking to join his project with Chris Morrow and a new band was born.
