Roger Cline

CSO double bassist joined the orchestra in 1973, at the age of 27. He also performs with a number of chamber ensembles including the Vermeer Quartet, Loyola Chamber Orchestra, and a number of CSO chamber organizations. He has been a long-time member of the Chicago Symphony Members' Committee.

His wife is a violinist with the Lake Forest Symphony, his 24-year-old daughter is a violist in the National Symphony, and his 19-year-old son is a cello performance major at Eastman.

Raised in Tacoma, Washington, Cline received a master's degree from the University of Michigan, spent 3 years in the US Army Special Forces Band at West Point, and continued his studies at Julliard, while playing bass and sousaphone.

As a hobby, Cline enjoys woodworking -- his carved bowls and vases are sold at a Wilmette craft gallery.
