Roy Hytower

One of Chicago's most under-recognized musical treasures, this Alabama native first played in Chicago with Otis Rush in 1962, and recorded some excellent soul records for Chicago labels Expo and Brainstorm during the latter part of that decade (and even recorded for a Mercury subsidiary Blue Rock). A well-rounded and accomplished jazz-influenced blues guitarist, he plays semi-regularly in the city (though not enough, because he's a great performer), but he's probably best known for his other career, acting. He's starred in the Black Ensemble Theatre's acclaimed biographies of Muddy Waters, Otis Redding and others. His band Motif has been together since 1969.

He has a new contemporary blues album out featuring titles like "Cyber Sex" and "Deadbeat Dad." He's scheduled to perform on the Juke Joint stage at the 1999 Chicago Blues Festival.
