Upon coming to Chicago from the East Coast in the mid-'70s, this guitarist scrapped with the New Earth Rhythm Band before snagging a spot in Theresa's Lounge house band. From there his Otis Rush-inspired, slow-jazz tweaks and occasional slide freak outs cemented his place alongside everyone from Koko Taylor to the Kinks to Otis himself.
As a solo artist, Ditzell is rather new to the scene, but still has two completely different sounds. 2004's 9 String Blues saw him go acoustic, feeling out an organic boogie woogie on gems like "Guitar Rag." His sophomore effort, 2005's Blues For Theresa, flashes his wily side, evoking the spirit of Stevie Ray Vaughan with monster electric pulls and occasional rock yelps and grunts.
He's currently touring lots of Illinois and parts of Wisconsin with his long time band, Blue Lightning.
