| This three-piece-all-girl-rockedy-rock band is infectiously energetic, intensely emotive, and always honest. A blend of rock, indie, and pop the band is a bit of Nirvana, a touch of Weezer, and a Pixie or two thrown in for bite. Originally formed in Marquette, Michigan the band became known for their onstage ease and humor. The band's two original members (Shane, who’s guitar chops have been growing since before she could walk, and Stephanie, who’s drumming began on Shane’s dashboard) knew they were missing something in each of a long line of bassists. It was not until they moved to Chicago, and forced their roommate, Ella, to learn the bass guitar that the band really came into their own. That was 2002, and since then, The Logic of Elliott has been an active part of the Chicago music scene. Their first local open mic was the beginning of a string of shows all over the city; the Empty Bottle, the Hideout, the Beat Kitchen, the Lyon’s Den, the Underground Lounge, the Subterrannean, the Note and the Double Door (among others) have all been venue for LOE’s sophisticated tunes and energetic presence. The band's energy, however, was not exclusive to performances. They recorded their EP at Overtone Studios, fought, adjusted their living arrangements, took some music lessons, and wrote new music. Through it all the Logic of Elliott have built up quite the little cult following. 2005 marks the debut of their first, full-length album, recorded by Rick Barnes at Rax Trax Recording Studio. Not just a symbolic victory, the album is a healthy mix of the best the band has to offer. Shane’s skillful guitar work and passionately androgynous vocals, Ella’s graceful baselines and deceptively sweet vocals, and Steph’s natural talent to weave them together. Ultimately, the band elicits that nothing else they could do in the world would be of any sort of use to mankind but to play music, and that it all comes down to this: music is good, passionate music is better, and rocking out will never be overrated.
