| Avant jazz pop trio (the group calls their music "pop-flavored avant-garde jazz") composed of David Pavkovic (Pinetop Seven) on drums, Jeff Parker (Isotope 217) and the incomparable and nearly-legendary Tatsu Aoki on bass. The three longtime local jazzmen originally formed as a Sunday night-only combo at the late jazz club, the Bop Shop. While all three played the standards in most of their other gigs, the relaxed setting at the Bop Shop allowed them to open up and expand into more pop-oriented song structures. They have a debut CD due out in early '99 on Truckstop. Given the vast and deep oceans of talent in the band, the disc promises to be a delight. Says Chicago Reader critic Neil Tesser, "Less players could easily lose focus on such an eclectic tune, but Tricolor combines its wide-open imagination with a fierce exactitude that keeps every detail sharp."
