Two-Fisted Cool

Two-Fisted Cool is a rock 'n' roll band. Signed to Chicago underground label No Cigar Records, the group released their CD, Royal Palace in the spring on 1997, which is available in Chicago at Tower, Reckless, Quaker Goes Deaf, Record Emporium and See Hear.

The group first appeared on the scene in the fall of 1996, at the Metro. But the band had been playing together around town for many years as the Tarnations.

Guitarist/vocalist John Immonen, bassist/vocalist Paul Czarnecki and drummer Paul Hart formed Tarnations in the spring of 1991 and immediately began writing songs. The six-song cassette, Porcelain introduced their brand of rock to the world, convincing long-time friend, guitarist Rick Carton, to leave New York City and join them in Chicago. Rick arrived just two weeks before the band's first show at the Lincoln Tap Room in January 1992, where they were deemed unprofessional and intoxicated by the club's owners.

The band lost Hart in 1993, and went through a cycle of drummers while recording a nine-song album, Ripand drummer John Carpender (Phantom Helmsmen, Mystery Driver) joined the fold in 1994 for two years. During this stint, Carpender helped shape numerous mainstays of the Tarnations' set.

Current Two-Fisted Cool drummer Mike Mikalunas joined the band (still Tarnation) in 1996, while at the same time a San Francisco-based country act named Tarnation, which signed to Elektra Records, forced the quartet to change their name. The band settled on the name Two-Fisted Cool after Immonen heard it uttered by one of the band's favorite cartoon characters, The Tick.
