The pathos in Rick Skowyra's voice, the lead singer for the Palos Hills-based new age new wave band Vultures are Lovebirds, resounds throughout their three-song EP, Meet Me at the Blue Grotto and 6-song Dark Town Battery. Well, with influences such as Robert Smith of the Cure and beat writer William Burroughs, Skowyra's music makes a lot of sense. It's introspective, melodic, catchy and moody. Founded in 1996 from the remnants of the band Drift, Vultures are Lovebirds manage to meld angst with compassion, melody with loss.
2003 brought the band to release their first full-length record, "Up The Love". The songs are very well written, most notably "Save Me For The Rain". The music isn't groundbreaking, but certainly has the "feel-good music" vibe to it.
The lineup includes Rick Skowyra - Voice, guitar, keyboard; Dan Williams - Guitar, keyboard, vocals; Bob Cislo - Bass, vocals; Andy Sacinski - Guitar; and Eric Matteson - Drums, percussion.
