Campagnola is easily one of the best Italian restaurants in Chicago...it just happens to be located in south Evanston. Roughly translating to "woman of the countryside," Chef Vince DiBattista's country cooking focuses on local and organic ingredients in superb dishes.
Look for appetizers like pan-seared scallops with sunchoke puree and oxtail ragu. Entrees ($15-$35) include bucatini with caramelized onion, whole fish del giorno and pork chops with braised red cabbage and chestnuts. Dessert is definitely worth loosening your belt a notch or two for. The warm chocolate boudino with almond-flavored ice milk drizzled on top is a favorite. Reservations are definitely needed on weekends, and are a safe bet on weeknights. A private second floor is available for group events.
