The food at Golden Apple (formerly Double Happiness) is fairly typical of Chinese food all over Chicago. You'll find crab Rangoons and fried wontons, egg foo youngs and chicken fried rice and orange and General Tso's chickens. But when tasty food is this cheap ($2-$8.25), who cares if it's run-of-the-mill? You won't, especially when you find that there's a nice selection of fresh baked goods available, too.

The inside of the restaurant resembles a small, American cafe more so than a Chinese restaurant in Chinatown, save for the Chinese writing on the wall and the incredibly friendly and helpful Chinese owner behind the counter. The walls are baby blue with orange trim, and the one-room eating area is small and at times almost eerily quiet. Still, the food is the star here, not the interior decorations. And when your food is the equivalent of Jackie Chan or Chow Yun-Fat (trust us, that's a good thing), you don't need anything else.
