Whether you just want to grab a burger or you're looking to have a five-course meal, the options are almost dizzying in the Gold Coast/Magnificent Mile area. Sometimes, though, you don't have to waste time deliberating. If you crave a tasty sandwich, fresh salad, power smoothie or sweet treat, head straight to Herban Gourmet Cafe.

Chef Josh Gelvan's Herban Gourmet Catering retail shop is located in the 900 N. Michigan Avenue shopping center on the lower level, next to Equinox Fitness. The menu is a fitness freak's (or tired shopper's) dream. For breakfast, there are yogurt parfaits, bagels, Irish oatmeal, muffins (lots of low-fat options) and warm breakfast sandwiches (including a nutella and banana mix). If it's later in the day, soups, salads and gourmet sandwiches like the Nona, grilled chicken with sun-dried tomatoes, shaved parmesan, arugula and balsamic on ciabatta, are available. Smoothies, fresh juices and wheat grass can be ordered anytime.

There's a small seating area with a few two-person tables next to the cafe and the 900 North building provides free wi-fi, so if you need to, you can get work done while you nosh. If you live in the Gold Coast, here’s an added bonus: Herban Gourmet Cafe delivers in your hood.
