One part coffeehouse and many more parts private home stuffed to the gills with antique knickknacks and collectables, this Norwood Park cafe taps into small-town vibes that seem straight out of Door County.

Owners Andy and Georgia Pappas have been collecting for more than 12 years. Andy's into DJing, hence classic records like Charles Mingus sessions and early Joni Mitchell cuts. He's also big on radios, watches and bar memorabilia of all kinds, as evidenced by Kouks' hundreds of glassware and throwback cocktail books. You can also root through beaded necklaces, vintage T-shirts, too many figurines to count and few dolls, of which the store's name comes from (Georgia's nickname, the Greek "Koúkla," for "doll," shortened to Kouks by her husband.

Georgia, the friendly face of the joint, commands the cafe most of the time, dishing it out with a smile: cookies and hot chocolate to neighborhood children; Columbian espressos, coffees and diverse loose leaf teas to lunchtime guests; and summertime smoothies to afternoon 'laxers. The rest is pure warmth: Homage to the word "home" hangs over the soda bar and 20 or so seats; bulletins such as "Beading Classes" and community festivals riddle the message board; and the outside patio hosts wheelbarrows and Athens-style stone sun children.
