Rice trumps noodles at this Thai spot in Uptown. Fried rice, curry rice, curry fried rice—oh the possibilities! Rice with shrimp, rice with pork, rice in oyster sauce—you get the idea. Although this may also leave you questioning why, when they've got so much of the grainy stuff, should you have to fork over a fistful of change (up to $1.50) if you want some with your entree? No matter, the main courses are all relatively cheap and filling enough without tacking on a mound or two of starch.
At first glance, Siam Cafe doesn't appear to be the most inviting place. The restaurant looks dingy and dark and it's difficult to see what’s going on inside through the plant-lined windows. One has to wonder if this place thrives off takeout orders, as there are typically only a handful of people dining in. But the atmosphere works just fine with Siam's low prices (not a single item over $10) and authentic cuisine. The restaurant does sit on one of the lesser looked-upon corners of Sheridan, and those in-the-know are tight-lipped about their tasty Thai discovery.
