Editorial Review of Sigara: A Hookah Cafe and Lounge

Smoking may be banned in bar and restaurants, but that doesn't mean there's no hope for those who long for a place to puff inside and have a drink at the same time. You just need to know where to look, like the re-imagined Sigara Hookah Lounge and Cafe. Gone are the hummus sandwiches and tropical drinks, in place of a renewed focus on the act of smoking hookah.

Fabric panels, low-lying tables and generous piles of pillows greet you as you enter. Music is generally mellow during the week, but on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights after 10:30, the tempo and sound both increase rapidly when a belly dancer works her way around the space, to the amusement of reclining smokers.

With 35 different flavors of tobacco to choose from, even the pickiest smoker should find a something to enjoy. Novices should check out the strawberry or vanilla flavors, while those with more experience can get adventurous, with Good & Plenty (licorice and mint), jasmine or orange. For those who remember the good old days of being able to drink and smoke, Sigara has now transitioned into being a BYOB establishment, so a trip to the liquor store across the street might be in order. Hookahs cost $20, with $9 for shisha refill, and can be shared by a number of people. Or, fly solo and take advantage of the free wi-fi.
