Nationally recognized not-for-profit theater (the largest on Chicago's North Shore) founded in 1974 produces 200+ performances/year in a 5-play season. In addition, more than 1500 students from local high schools attend Northlight each year. The company recently moved to the new Skokie Performing Arts facility kitty-corner to the Old Orchard shopping center. Northlight has received numerous national and local awards and grants within the last few years, including: AT&T: OnStage grant, Unmerciful Good Fortune ('95-'96); The Kennedy Center's Fund for New American Plays grant, My Other Heart ('93-'94), and Rhino's Policeman ('91-'92); W. Alton Jones Foundation New American Plays grant, Lonely Planet ('92-'93)
From their 1998/9 season, four plays (including How I Learned to Drive, The Old Neighborhood, and The cripple of Inishmaan) were Jeff recommended.
